The Republic of Korea is one of the safest countries in the world and enjoys one of the lowest rates of crime. In most student towns, like Jayang-dong, it is generally safe to travel around at any time—day or night. While many people speak do not English fluently, most locals will be willing to help and assist in an emergency.
Since your safety is our paramount concern, all campus buildings and most dormitories have closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the entry points. Security officers are stationed at important locations and patrol the campuses. Should you need any assistance or feel threatened at any time, alert one of them.
Besides this, please follow basic commonsense rules for personal safety, like travelling with friends, especially if it is very late in the evening, letting others know where you are going, being aware of your personal belongings and keeping them safe and secure.
Do contact a Student Services Officer if at any time you are concerned about anything to do with your safety or well-being, or feel threatened on campus or in your dormitory.
If it is an Emergency and you cannot reach a Student Services Officer, dial 119—the National Emergency line for emergencies services with details about where you are, what you need.
