Solbridge's Student Academic Record

In order to evaluate your academic capability, we need to review secondary school or college academic transcripts (undergraduate applicants) or Bachelor's degree transcripts / mark sheets (graduate applicants), standardized English test scores (TOEFL / IELTS), and external examination results if applicable. Only original or validated documents will be accepted with the application.

Sufficient English Language Proficiency

It is essential that applicants possess sufficient English language proficiency to ensure successful completion of courses. For speakers of other languages, official results of either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)will be required. SolBridge's Test Code for TOEFL is 5980. Visit www.IELTS.org and www.ETS.org for information on taking test.

Undergraduate applicants who provide TOEFL scores of at least 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based or 79 Internet-based or an IELTS overall band score of at least 6.0 and Graduate applicants who provide TOEFL scores of at least 570 paper-based, 230 computer-based or 88 Internet-based or an IELTS overall band score of at least 6.5 will be considered for regular admission. Scores lower than these may qualify for conditional admission. In such cases, students will be required to take additional English language courses.

Sufficient Financial Resources

All international students must provide proof that sufficient financial resources are available to support them during their first year at SolBridge. The resources will be either personal resources or financial aid from SolBridge or a combination of these. The Korean Immigration Service will also require this same proof. Students are required to submit the Proof of Finances form and supporting bank verification with their application.

Financing Your SolBridge Education

As a world class institution of higher education, SolBridge seeks exceptionally well-qualified students from all economic backgrounds. Financial aid in the form of scholarships and student loans are available for students who have demonstrated extraordinary scholarship and aptitude, and who otherwise meet the admission criteria of SolBridge. Scholarship students receive a renewable scholarship that pays a substantial portion of the cost of the academic year's tuition for up to eight semesters of study at SolBridge. To be considered, applicants for financial aid admission must apply no later than June 1 for Fall admission and December 1 for Spring admission. Part-time on-campus employment, and part-time off-campus employment (after six months of enrollment at SolBridge) opportunities may be available as additional sources of income to help defray cost of living expenses. However, the income earned would not be sufficient for tuition or dormitory fees. Income from these sources may not be counted upon for meeting your Proof of Finances, because they cannot be guaranteed. However, SolBridge will make every effort to assist students with employment opportunities.

Academic Year

The Academic year has two semesters, Fall and Spring. The Spring 2009 Semester begins on 2 March with examinations ending on 12 June. New students are expected to be on campus for Orientation from 26-27 February. The Fall 2009 semester begins 1 September and examinations end on December 12. New students must participate in an orientation, 25-29 August.

Application Deadlines

Students may start their academic programs in either the Fall or Spring semester. Admissions are made on a rolling basis, however, students are urged to apply as early as possible to ensure sufficient time for application review and visa application procedures. Students who are Admitted but who are not able to complete VISA Arrangements prior to the start of the semester, may defer enrollment to the subsequent semester.

Advanced Credit

Undergraduate students may earn credit toward their degree programs by passing external examinations with satisfactory marks, or by taking university-level courses for transferable credit at another university recognized by the country's Ministry of Education. Earning advanced credit can help undergraduate students graduate early, add a second major or take more elective courses. External examinations such as higher-level examinations associated with an International Baccalaureate (IB) Program or 'A' level or 'AS' level examinations with acceptable results will be considered for advanced credit.

Transfer Students

Undergraduate students wishing to transfer from a recognized college or university may apply as a normal student and provide course descriptions along with official transcripts / mark sheets which will be evaluated for transfer credit. Transfer students should have a GPA of 2.75/4.5 (or equivalent) and have individual course grades of 2.25/4.5 or better (or equivalent). Courses must be similar in content and quality to that of SolBridge in order to qualify for transfer credit. Up to 2 years of credit may be transferred; the remainder of the degree credits must be earned at SolBridge in accordance with Korean law.
