The Asia Institute launched the SolBridge Biotechnology Initiative in cooperation with the Korea Research Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) in 2008. The SolBridge Biotechnology Initiative engages leading figures in biotechnology to engage in a profound conversation concerning the future of this rapidly growing field and its implications for society and business. Dr. Zach Hall visited the Asia Institute as part of this effort in October 2008, delivering a series of lectures on biotechnology at KRIBB, Seoul National University and the Science and Technology Policy Research Institute. The Asia Institute is currently working on a report on Korean biotechnology in cooperation with KRIBB with the help of Dr. Ian Simon of the Science and Technology Research Institute in Seoul. Dr. Simon has a Ph.D. from Yale University in the biosciences and is conducting research on science policy.
